Kenworth Trucks – Pioneering in Green Trucking Technology

The Kenworth Truck Company is a manufacturer of medium duty and heavy duty trucks and is a division of the PACCAR Company. This truck company is known for their fuel efficient trucks because of their fuel saving providing technology. Kenworth Trucks are known for being aerodynamic and using liquefied and compressed natural gas in their trucks as well as having diesel electric medium duty hybrid trucks.

Because of its goal to strive towards a cleaner and greener automobile technology, the Kenworth Truck Company was awarded the EPA’S (Environmental Protection Agency) Clean Air Excellence Award for the use of environmental friendly products in their trucks. Kenworth Trucks was founded in the year 1923, and from then on has been one of the leading truck companies especially in the use of green technology with more than 300 dealers located all over America and Canada.


Some of the popular Kenworth Trucks are the C500B and the C550B model trucks. These were a part of the new broader product line up of Kenworth trucks which were to be more fuel efficient. The Kenworth C500B was the first truck of this new line up which was produced in the year 1988. This construction truck had the rugged durability that was similar to that of the C510 while combining the cab comforts and looks of the Kenworth T800. The 2003 model year Kenworth C500B was powered using a Caterpillar C15 diesel engine which produced a horsepower of 475 and had an 18 speed transmission with an air ride suspension.

The tires were the 11R24.5 with polished aluminum wheels with the weight of its rear axle measuring about 52,000 pounds. Its features included a front bumper that was a C/W Oilfield with a headache rack, a S/N: 11450 winch, an air lifting fifth wheel, a tail skirt, a live roll, a walking deck and fenders, tool boxes, a 24 inch sliding fifth wheel, a CB radio as well as dual chrome stacks and air cleaners, aluminum wheels and rotating lights to name a few.

The Kenworth C550B is a Boom truck or Bucket truck model. The 1994 year model had a Cummins Diesel N14 435 Mech engine with 10+4 speed transmission while the 1995 year model had a diesel 425 Caterpillar engine with an 18 speed transmission. The 1994 year model had a front bumper oilfield with beacons, a CB radio as well as a boom rest and headache rack behind the cab. Other features included a Braden 30 ton winch, tool boxes, a 969 National 25 ton picker which had a 69 inch of boom as well as a 42 inch roll, a tail skirt, an ASF fifth wheel air slide, aluminum wheels, a walking deck, dual chrome stack and as well as air cleaners. It also had a double 120 gallon holding capacity fuel tank as well as rear and front out riggers and a double steel frame.

The 1995 Kenworth C550B had a 264 inch wheelbase with its rear axle weighing 48,000 pounds and the front axle weighing 14,600 pounds. It also had a Chalmers suspension, aluminum Budd wheels, a fully locking rear differential, tire chains and air conditioning among others.
