Reinforced by some of their new models like the Silverado HD, General Motors have seen an increase in 11 per cent for March. Although the majority of these sales figure, almost 27 per cent, comprised of fleet sales, the company has noted that this will be the ninth consecutive month, that the sales to fleet are less than 30 per cent of their total sales.

This has been viewed by many to be a key indicator that the desirability of vehicles to customers and purchase incentives has declined on a basis of per unit, monthly compared to that of February. The 2011 first quarter, total sales showed an increase of 26 per cent, selling 592,545 units, while the retail sales showed an increase of 38 per cent.

Chevrolet, meanwhile, continues to the leader in comparison to volume sold for General Motors. However, Cadillac and Buick have also managed to bring in the biggest percentage gainers for the quarterly period. GMC, meanwhile also contributed a sizeable chunk to General Motor’s sales figures for March, 2011.

GMC sold a total of 30,597 units in March, and a total of 90,789 units for the whole quarter. GMC’s Sierra pickup truck led the way, selling a total number of 11,622 vehicles in March, and a total of 33,945 vehicles for the quarter. Proving the viability of their crossover truck models, the Terrain and Acadia were the third and second highest selling brands for the brand, which managed to out sell Yukon XL and Yukon.

For the quarterly sales, Terrain and Acadia were neck to neck, with Acadia managing to sell 19,688 vehicles, while Terrain managed to sell 19,860 vehicles.

Cadillac is GM’s luxury brand, which apart from making some of the finest car and SUV models, also makes great light duty trucks. After the popularity of the pickup truck segment, Cadillac first ventured into this market by bringing out its first light duty pickup. According to recent reports, Cadillac will also bring out its first HD DRW Platinum pickup.

While most truck manufacturers sought to brand their trucks in the market based on their specs, Cadillac was one of the first to highlight the luxury features of their truck models, a feature which was the most sought after among buyers, after performance. Branding Cadillac trucks as luxury trucks also helped to differentiate their trucks in the heavily crowded and competitive truck market.

The Cadillac Escalade is an SUV. This SUV marked their first foray into the SUV market. This full size model was introduced as a 1999 luxury model. While this SUV was based on the Yukon Denali, it was later redesigned for 2002. This redesigned model fit in better with the new design theme from Cadillac. This vehicle is one of only three Cadillac vehicles to make it out of the US market.

The Cadillac Escalade is powered by the V8 Vortec 6.2 liter engine, which generates a horsepower of 403. Some of the standard features included in this SUV include a steering wheel wrapped in original leather and of tilted faux wood, cruise control, heated 2nd row and front row seats, leather upholstery, memory system, compass as well as an indicator for outside temperature.

The Cadillac Escalade EXT is a truck version of the original SUV model. This truck was introduced in the year 2002. One of the unique features that this model boasts about includes its bottom hinge door, which allows the bed of the truck to be expanded into that of the truck cab.

The newest Cadillac Escalade EXT model includes many modern technology features like a navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has the OnStar package for roadside assistance, as well as the rear Ultrasonic parking assist. There is also an entertainment system for the rear seat, with an 8″ flip down diagonal screen. The Cadillac Escalade EXT is the perfect light duty truck for those looking for a luxury pickup truck.

Talbert Manufacturing will be exhibiting two of their newest custom trailers at this year’s Mid-America Trucking Show. These trailer models are the Double Drop 35-Ton HRG trailer and the Beam Deck 55-Ton RA trailer. According to Talbert Manufacturings’ VP of marketing and sales, Greg Smith, these trailers have resulted from customized and specific design features so as to meet the exacting specifications of their customers, and also have upgraded engineering initiatives which deliver better longevity, ease of use, flexibility and capacity.

Their engineering and sales staff will be present at their booth at the show to explain the applications, benefits and features of these trailers or their other models of custom trailers. The Beam Deck 55-Ton RA trailer has a gooseneck which is ground bearing, customized with a swing clearance of 114 inches, which allows the driver to get more weight on steer axle. The beam deck measures 26 feet, which facilitates overall lighter weight at a ground clearance which is lower. This trailer also has a heavy duty, four axle, suspension which offers a capacity of 30,000 pounds.

It also has a four hydraulic powerful cylinder which is designed for a higher lift capacity, compared to other competitive models which offer only two cylinders. This model also has an advantage when it comes to load capacity compared to comparable models. It has a capacity rating of 110,000 pounds at a load base of 13 feet. This trailer has a modular design which allows for more flexibility and use of varieties of equipments.

There is also an optional deck insert of four feet which can be pinned before the front axle or behind the deck so as to increase the length of the deck by 30 feet. The other new Double Drop 35-Ton HRG has been customized so as to haul machinery used in agriculture. This trailer is differentiated amongst many others by its aluminum innovative system of pull out, which measures two feet on both sides, to accommodate equipment pieces which are wider at lesser heights.

To provide increased flexibility, the unit also features a removable hydraulic gooseneck with five ride heights as well as an additional deck of full width above the gooseneck so as to haul excess dunnage. Similar to most trailers from Talbert, this model has also been designed having four hydraulic cylinders for higher lift capacity. The overall length of this trailer is 48 feet, and has an air ride suspension tandem rear axles.

The launch of the revolutionary iPad in the past year had many manufacturers in the automotive industry looking at how they could incorporate this revolutionary gadget into the dashboards of their vehicles in a bid to capitalize on the devices burgeoning popularity. Till date, however there has been no such incorporation that deserved the gadgets capability.

However where the giants of automobiles failed, the tech heads seem to have nailed it. A crew of tech lovers, known as the SoundMan Car Audio, has managed to bring the iPad to life in the dashboard of the most popular pick up truck in the market, the Ford F-150. They worked on fitting this amazing gadget into the dashboard of every vehicle they could get their hands on and subsequently also developed a complete guide which they have posted online on their website.

Installing the iPad to the trucks requires more a little skill and also requires some modifications to the dashboard of the truck as well as wiring expertise. As a result, the installation doesn’t come cheap. According to SoundMan, the installation of the iPad to your F-150 pick up truck which includes the required wiring though not the iPad is around $800 to $900.

More details on installing the iPad are given through a video on the company’s website. For those who are looking for greater music output from your iPad or when traveling in your truck, hooking up an iPad to its dashboard is a great option. Some accessories for the iPad as well as a few materials required for its installation can all be found online at the apple store and other online dealers respectively.

All of the materials required for the installation also have the sites for where you can buy them from mentioned, which is of a great help if you are looking to installing this yourself.

Ford’s SVT Raptor pick up truck of its F-150 series has witnessed an increase in its model sales this year. January was reportedly the best month for the vehicle, according to the manager of consumer marketing of Ford F-150, Mark Lapine, during its new 2011 version Super Crew cab’s press introduction in Michigan.

According to Marc Lapine, the sold more than 900 Raptor model pick up trucks in January alone. By the month of February was over, the company had added more sales of 740 Raptor pick up trucks to its list. From this years model year versions of both the Super Cab and Super Crew trucks, Ford sold around 1,072 models of the Raptor.

For the year 2010, meanwhile, the company managed to sell around 8,614 Raptor pick up trucks of the model year 2010. The 2011 Super Crew model of the Raptor pick up truck has so far managed to receive a lot of rave reviews. The Raptor pick up trucks from Ford manage to not only deliver on performance but also on style, a feature which is sorely missed in other full size four door pick ups.

Both the Super Crew as well as the Super Can Raptor models is solely powered by Ford’s own V8 6.2 liter engine, which first made its debut in the models 2010 version. These engines deliver a horsepower of 411 and a torque of 434 pounds feet. While the Super Cab version is priced at $42,525, the Super Crew version is priced at $45,290.

One of the great features of Raptor truck is that it offers a lot of space being a full sized truck and at the same time delivers on performance, suitably transitioning from a family pick up to that of a work truck having a great towing capacity of 8,000 pounds for the 2011 Super Crew version.

Apart from this truck also manages to deliver on style, probably one of the things which make it stand out from regular four door full size trucks, and the reason behind its sales growth. The Super Crew Raptor version is also able to easily drive on any type of rough off road terrains. These trucks are also quite feature packed, with the Super Crew boasting of a 4.2″ display computer or the stability Advance-Trac control.

Trailmobile Trailers made some of the leading semi trailers and dry trucks in the industry.

The Dodge’s new 2011 Dura 2011 dodge durango suvngo R/T is an SUV model; the main aim behind building it was to turn a truck to a sports vehicle. The Chrysler design chief and Dodge CEO, Ralph Gilles, said that the R/T was added to Durango’s lineup just last summer ending. The R/T model is available in a HEMI 5.7 liter engine which is capable of a 360 horsepower. There is however an option between the rear drive and an all wheel drive for you.

This new R/T model can easily be distinguished from the other Durango models because of its black grille and body colored surround, new rear and front fascias, surrounds of black headlamps and 20 inch unique alloy wheels. The ride height of the SUV has been lowered by 0.8 inches. Other mechanical changes include rear and front springs that are stiffer by 15 per cent.

The shocks in the front also have a damping force which is twice that of standard units, while the rear shocks see a boost of 20 per cent. A negative camber of half degree is also dialed in the rear and front, while the steering wheel is revalved to match its sportier tire and suspension characteristics. According to Gilles, the R/T is the closest you can get to the BMW X5 M and not spend a lot of money.

Some of the options available with the R/T include a sunroof, entertainment system in the rear seat, sat nav by Garmin, cruise control that is adaptive as well as a back-up camera, which are a bit expensive. It has a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.3 seconds and a time of 15.5 seconds when at 90.8 mph which is not quite quick.

The steering of this SUV is nicely weighted and linear, which is helped by its thinner rim that is more comfortable to grip. While the ride is quite firm, the harshness and impact noise are comfortably suppressed. The 119 inch long wheelbase also helps to dampen any aft/ fore pitch and the shocks and stiffer springs help to tame its body roll.

For an SUV weighing 5483 pounds, the Dodge R/T is remarkably composed and has a great straight line of stability, because of its basic architecture platform, independent four wheel suspension. The weakest part of this SUV is probably the automatic five speed transmission, with its three ratios that have been spread too widely, probably in a bid to improve its fuel economy on highways.
